Jillian Dempsey Makeup

I can’t remember how I first stumbled upon Jillian Dempsey’s products, it may have been through Rosie Huntington-Whiteley or Katie-Jane Hughes. Either way, I am glad I did because I feel that the line really speaks to me. As mentioned in numerous blog posts I am a fan of the minimalist make up look and one that you can put together by using just a few products and your fingers. I am especially a fan of cream products because they give a natural finish and one that is quick and fuss-free. Adding to my growing collection of Kosas and One Over One cream products, Jillian Dempsey Lid and Cheek Tints as well as the Khol Eyeliner have slotted into my existing routine really well. In fact I have been mixing up products from all the three brands. Such is the beauty of cream formulas.

Jillian Dempsey is an established makeup artist who has worked on film and celebrity faces for over two decades.  She often makes up the faces of Hollywood starlets for red carpet events or for magazine covers so it goes without saying that she knows her stuff. She launched her line in 2016 which now consists of Cheek Tints, Lid Tints and Eyeliners but I feel like I only recently saw the brand really take off. 2018 seems to be the year of simple makeup that embraces natural skin texture and doesn’t require you to spend 20 minutes in front of a mirror because, let’s be honest, who has the time?

Jillian Dempsey Lid Tint

I have had a real love-hate relationship with cream eyeshadows. I seem to have particularly oily and slippery eye lids so anything I put on them will most definitely gather in my crease. I’ve come to the realisation that this is just how it is and my hooded eyes don’t help the matter either. But as they say, you get what you’re given and the best thing is to accept it. When I heard that the Jillian Dempsey line was all about the undone, grungy and lived in look I thought “yes, that’s for me”. I want to look put together but not TOO much. The Lid Tint formulations are very creamy but lightly pigmented and they’re available in 8 shades. I chose a very risque eyeshadow shade Ruby which is a warm red and a less out there shade called Dew, which I’m not sure is even a shade but more on that later.

I find that the colour of Ruby lasts really well on my eyelids and there is some creasing but Jillian doesn’t deny this so I was prepared for it. I was expecting the red shade on my eyes to make me look tired but it looks great with blue eyes. I love using it on my lips too and that really finishes off the look nicely. Paired with the eyeliner it’s a great combination of winter shades. Dew is, as mentioned, not really a shade but more of an eye gloss. It kind of feels like a gloss/balm hybrid and it looks awesome as a highlighter on its own or on top of a more illuminating highlighter like the rms beauty Living Luminizer for example. But it’s real purpose is as an eyelid gloss, and this is a big trend in makeup this year. It doesn’t last very long I’ll admit but it looks good for a few hours and I don’t mind reapplying it.

Jillian Dempsey Cheek Tint

I am a total sucker for blush so out of the 6 available Cheek Tint shades I thought I’d try two that I knew I could wear every day. Poppy is a bright coral shade and Sunny, a warm nude. The formulation of the cheek tints is more matte than the Lid Tints and they almost have a cream to powder feel but the finish is quite soft and dewy. I love the packaging of Jillian Dempsey’s products. They’re slim and compact and each one has a mirror which is a must for me because I do like to retouch and reapply throughout the day.

I like to start by using Sunny all over, almost as a bronzer, and then I apply Poppy to the apples of my cheeks for a little pop of colour. Sunny also looks great on eyelids. To complete the look I use the Lid Tint in Dew for a glossy highlight on the top of the cheekbones.

Jillian Dempsey Natural Khol Eyeliner

I haven’t purchased eyeliner in a long time, but after seeing Jillian apply it on Caroline Hiron’s I thought it looked like something I could do. The Khol Eyeliner range has 4 shades and the one I have been testing out is Rich Brown. The waterproof formulation is so soft that it doesn’t tug on your eyes and it’s really hard to make a mistake because the whole point is to achieve a smudgy look. I am revolting against the precise cat wing eyeliner because I just can’t get it to work on my hooded eyes. This is much easier, quicker and the lived in look just looks cool. I love the versatility of this product. Sometimes I just do a very fine line at the base of my lashes and other times I use it as an eyeshadow to achieve a night time smokey eye.

I really like this range and in my opinion it is worth the hype and it would be perfect for someone who loves “on the go” makeup. For us in Australia, we can get Jillian Dempsey via Revolve. The ingredients for all of the products are listed on the website and most of them contain only natural and organic ingredients as well as being vegan friendly.
