In this week’s blog I wanted to give a shout out to my skincare A-team. These four products have been hanging out on my face for a while now and I think I owe it to you and to them to spread the word about just how they’ve transformed my skin. I’ve been loyal to them and it has paid off, big time. I also want to point out that I think these are staples that everyone should have in their skincare routine, whether it’s these products specifically or from other brands. It’s a pretty simple line up – Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Hyaluronic Acid and a facial oil suitable to your skin type.
L’Elu Skincare Facial Oil for Combination Skin
I have always loved facial oils so when Naomi from L’Elu contacted me I was pretty excited to connect with someone who is as obsessed with them as I. I thought I’d try a facial oil specifically for combination skin because mine is dehydrated but produces a little too much oil. I always say to people who are scared of putting oils on their face to try a light oil first and the L’Elu Oily & Combination Skin facial oil is perfect for combination skin because it doesn’t feel heavy nor does it clog pores. It’s specifically designed to do the opposite actually, and that is to draw out impurities. Looking at the ingredients list, there are some that I haven’t come across before like Milk Thistle Oil, Maracuja Oil and Hazelnut Oil so it’s no wonder that it feels and smells luxurious. It makes my skin feel replenished and happy, day and night.
The cool thing about L’Elu is that they not only have oils suitable for all skin types, but you can also customise your own, only with ingredients that are recommended for your type. I really like the idea of being able to pick and choose your own, under controlled conditions. L’Elu are an Australian brand, natural and cruelty free. This product was gifted.
Drunk Elephant C-Firma
I don’t even know where to begin with this product, it’s that good. If there is one product out of all of these that has made the most noticeable difference it would be the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum. The 15% l-ascorbic acid (also known as Vitamin C) formulation helps to brighten, firm and even out the skin tone and it targets photo ageing specifically, which is caused by UVA and UVB damage. I love that it pairs the Vitamin C with Virgin Marula Oil so it feels really lovely to apply, not oily at all but just the perfect texture that spreads easily on the skin and isn’t too watery. Drunk Elephant products do not contain fragrance or essential oils so it it has kind of a pleasant nutty smell. The packaging is insanely cool and it twists to reveal the pump.
In terms of performance my skin has simply been glowing. It looks brighter, the two really obvious sun spots that I have seem to have faded and in general my skin is feeling smoother and firmer. I am going to really struggle to try any other Vitamin C serum now, I think this is a forever kind of love. Drunk Elephant is a cruelty free brand, not completely natural but certainly excludes most common irritants.
Jordan Samuel Hydrate Facial Serum
You can see that I have upgraded to the big-mama size of the Jordan Samuel Hydrate Facial Serum and for good reason. It’s darn good. I need plenty of hydration and this serum delivers Hyaluronic acid in a lovely, jelly-like formula filled with Aloe Juice, plenty of Glycerin and interesting botanicals such as Tamarind, Cucumber, Passion Flower and Willow Bark. To further the plumping and wrinkle smoothing effects of Hyaluronic acid, Jordan Samuel has also added Hexapeptide-15 and we all know how good peptides are (just read my blog post about them to find out more). I use it morning and night without fail and it helps my skin stay plump and hydrated.
Zelens Power A (Retinol) High Potency Treatment Drops
The Zelens Power A (Retinol) High Potency Drops (Retinol) was a Caroline Hirons influenced purchase. I had already tried Sunday Riley’s Luna and it just wasn’t doing enough for me so I thought I’d skip straight to the good stuff. Dr. Marko Lens is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and an expert in skin ageing and skin cancer. He has quite an extensive line of products and part of the line are these treatment drops which come in Vitamin A, C and D versions. What I like about this formula is that it’s not heavy so it doesn’t add any extra oil to my skin. It’s oil free and it is really potent, as the name suggests! It contains several kinds of Vitamin A including a time-released retinol which does its job of resurfacing and renewing the skin without irritating it. Although pricey, I feel that the most powerful anti ageing ingredient that we know of, to date, is worth spending money on.
I amped up my use of retinol as soon as I started seeing the back of the Southern Hemisphere Summer. I now use it every second night and, combined with the Drunk Elephant C-Firma, it has made my skin so smooth. My clogged pores are gone and some of my enlarged pores look smaller. It’s truly a standout, high performer in my books.
So there you have it, my (current) secret to glowing skin. Which products are in your skincare A-team? Let me know in the comments below or you can email me and connect with me on Instagram and Facebook. To access the latest podcast, please visit iTunes.
