With every new launch, rms beauty seem to be getting better and better with their formulations, and the hype that builds around the steady flow of product releases is huge. I’m a big fan of the brand for its high quality products, great ingredients, minimalist packaging and Rose-Marie Swift’s no nonsense attitude.
Although these products launched overseas a few months ago, Australia has lagged behind with Mecca Cosmetica only recently releasing the Luminizer X Quad palette, Wild With Desire Lipsticks and lip liners. I had tired of waiting so I hit up the store as soon as they dropped and I’ve been testing them out ever since. In this review I’m going to cover the lip products and save the highlight palette for a separate in depth review.
rms beauty Wild With Desire Lipstick
There are 10 shades in the Wild With Desire Lipstick line up, including pinks, reds, corals, browns and berry colours. They are packaged in sleek anodised aluminium tubes with the bullet cut on an angle rather than being in a traditional pointed lipstick shape. I think a good judge of a lipstick line is how good their reds are and there are four reds in total. Rose-Marie seems to always be wearing red lipstick in photos so it didn’t surprise me that most of the colours leaned red. After some deliberation and a lot of swatching on my hand I decided on an orangey red called rms Red and a medium pink brown shade called Brain Teaser.
Let’s talk about the formula before getting into the colours. Simply, the formula is outstanding. It’s extremely pigmented so it takes a few swipes and you’re pretty much done. It’s smooth and creamy which makes application really easy as it doesn’t tug on your lips. Most importantly, it’s very hydrating and doesn’t make your lips feel dry and tight over time. It has a satin matte finish which can be blotted down to achieve a more matte, blurred, undone effect.
I put rms Red to the ultimate test on New Years Eve. Throughout the 9 hours that I was out partying, I reapplied two or three times, so it’s certainly not a long lasting lipstick but that’s not how it is marketed so I wasn’t expecting a whole night of wear from it. It settled into the lines of my lips every so slightly, but it was not too obvious and to be fair I was inspecting it very closely in the mirror. I recommend that you go light on the application and blot the lips well with a tissue to avoid this.
Brain Teaser looked really unique swatched on my hand and the website described it as a medium pink brown which is right up my alley. The lipliner that I’ll talk about next is is a really good match for it and makes application a cinch. I didn’t experience any settling into lines with this shade.
My favourite of the two is definitely rms red. It’s a vibrant and perfectly balanced orange red shade that I can see myself wearing during the day and at night. I use the Rodin Lip Liner in Tough Tomato to really bring out the orange hue or steer it towards red by using the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Kiss N Tell.
rms beauty Lip Liner
The rms beauty Lip Liner range is small with only three shades – two nudes and one red. I have the deeper of the nudes, called “Nighttime Nude” which is described as a deep rose taupe. I love that it comes in wind up packaging and that there’s a little sharpener integrated into the pencil – how’s that for convenience? The formula of the lip liner is soft and creamy but stiff enough to allow you to draw a precise line. This colour is true to its description, looks great on it’s own and much like the lipstick formula it’s very hydrating and won’t dry out your lips over time. The lip liner is a little more matte than the lipsticks.
I like to draw the outline of my lips and then fill in the rest before applying lipstick on top. This shade also works really well with some other darker nude lipsticks that I own such as tmf Vegan Lips in Deborah and Kosås Cosmetics in Undone and I love the formula and application so much that I’m keen to add the other two liners to my collection as well.
Overall I think rms beauty have really nailed the formula of their new lipsticks and lip liners. They are packed full of nourishing oils and butters including their signature ingredient buriti oil which features in their Beauty Oil. These products just go to show that natural makeup can be of a high quality with no compromises on colour payoff and performance.
