Summer is well and truly here in the southern hemisphere which means more time spent in the sun and at the beach. Continuing on from my face and body sunscreen recommendations I thought I would put together a trio of products which can help soothe sun-kissed skin. It goes without saying that prevention is key, so be sun smart at all times. I promise to stop nagging you now!
Born Again Body Hydrating Skin Tonic
You know that when a brand has one product in their range that it’s going to be good. Years of research and testing have gone into the very unique Born Again Body Hydrating Skin Tonic and you can really tell. To date I haven’t come across a product like this. How can a mist, something that’s essentially made from water, be hydrating? Well, it is and I’m very glad this was sent to me in the winter because I got to test it out under very dry conditions. It was moisturising enough for me as a day moisturiser in the winter and it saved me a lot of time in the morning. You spritz it on and rub it in and it’s all done within a few seconds.
But let’s not forget I’m here to talk about after sun products and I’m happy to say that this multi tasker performs just as well as an after sun spray. It feels really refreshing on the skin as it contains aloe vera, coconut oil, green tea, vitamin E, witch hazel and cucumber seed oil to soothe, heal and replenish. It has a fresh scent of cucumber and the mist dispenses well from the spray head. I think it’s a great replacement for moisturiser in the summer, when you don’t want to use anything too thick. I’m onto my second bottle and I can’t get enough.
Born Again Body is an Australian brand and the Hydrating Skin Tonic is available on their website for AUD$29.95. It contains natural ingredients, it’s vegan friendly and cruelty free.
Herbivore Botanicals After Sun Soothing Aloe Mist
The Herbivore Botanicals After Sun Soothing Aloe Mist is a less sophisticated product than the previous and won’t replace your moisturiser but it is a very refreshing body mist nonetheless. It has a peppermint and coconut scent which is delicious and it feels very cooling especially if you remember to leave it in the fridge. I find the packaging impractical for taking to the beach or on holiday but it is available for purchase in a smaller travel bottle, or you can decant it into a travel container. I think this is a great spritz for hot days as well when you just need something to cool you down.
Herbivore Botanicals are from Seattle, Washington. I purchased this product locally at Pigeonhole Enex 100 for AUD$29.95 but it’s also available at Sephora and The Lab Organics. It contains natural ingredients, it’s vegan friendly and cruelty free.
Onne Balancing Body Balm
A few months ago Australian brand Onne Beauty reached out to me and sent me a lovely package which included their Balancing Body Balm. If I had to recommend one after sun lotion it would be this one. It’s light in texture and whilst it absorbs and rubs in easily it also does a great job of keeping skin moisturised over time. The last thing you want in the warm weather is to feel a thick, greasy, sweaty layer of cream on your body. I also think it’s important to let skin breathe when it has been damaged by the sun so slapping on a layer of heavy cream will not help with healing.
The Onne Balancing Body Balm contains aloe vera, chamomile extract, coconut oil, cocoa seed butter, sweet almond oil, vitamin e, rosehip oil, sunflower oil and rosemary leaf extract. This cocktail of ingredients is perfect for healing sunburn, dry skin, eczema and dryness and it’s safe for use on babies and kids of all ages.
I hope that you enjoyed my recommendations for after sun products. Enjoy the sunshine and let me know if you try any of the above by leaving a comment below, or you can email me and connect with me on Instagram and Facebook.
