Those first warm days signalling the arrival of summer are much anticipated in my part of the world. The sunny days also bring the realisation that more skin will be on show, and the regret of a winter spent neglecting our bodies. Fear not! With regular exfoliation and moisturising you can get your skin back on track in no time. If you want a little bit more help, read on to find out about my top three products for faking the glow.
Luna Bronze Radiant Self Tanning Lotion
Self tanners are one of those products that can go horribly wrong. You put it on the night before a big event and wake up in full Oompa Loompa mode, scrubbing your skin to within an inch of its life trying to get the streaks out. This has been my main reason for avoiding self tanners in the past. I think part of the problem is that most of them have simply been too dark. What I was looking for was a product that takes the edge off the paleness. If that sounds like you, I think you might really like this product too.
For me to have used the Luna Bronze Self Tanning Lotion almost weekly since purchasing it, says it all. This Australian made product is made using natural and organic ingredients which come together to provide a lovely, warm and golden glow without a hint of orange. Before using it I make sure to exfoliate and moisturise the usual spots (knees, elbows, feet and hands) with a cream or balm such as the Babe Balm. The fake tanner is brown when it comes out of the tube but as you blend it, it turns into a creamy, white colour so that you can see where you may have missed any spots. I apply it with my hands like I would any body lotion and this method has worked best for me. I am not very skilled at applying fake tan but this one is a cinch and I haven’t experienced any streaking or patchiness.
On top of being a great self tanner, it is also a lovely moisturiser. It has the smell of citrus and I’ll be honest, the tiniest hint of the ol’ fake tan smell but out of all the fake tanners that have touched my skin, this is the least smelly one and you might only notice it on the night that you apply it. I did notice that it stained the sheets a little so be aware of that. I get about 5 days out of it before it starts to fade but it does so gradually. Luna Bronze also have a gradual self tanner in their range, which you can use to top up the tan and keep it going for a bit longer. Overall, both products get a big thumbs up from me.
I purchased my bottle of Luna Bronze Radiant Self Tanning Lotion at The Beauty Edit however Luna Bronze has since become exclusive to Mecca Cosmetica. You can also buy it directly from the Luna Bronze website.
Prtty Peashun Skin Tight Body Lotion
Prtty Peashun Skin Tight Body Lotion is one of those products that started off backstage and then became a cult product and must-have amongst the savvy beauty consumers, even before green beauty was a thing. It’s an extremely hydrating, luminous body lotion that comes in a plain version and 4 tinted shades which help to blur imperfections on the skin and can be used on both the body or the face.
When squeezed, the space age silver packaging delivers a cream which is packed full of moisturising avocado, pomelo and jojoba oil infused with a mineral glow. The lotion has a lovely, natural scent of pomelo and when applied it makes the skin look dewy and luminescent (no glitter in this one, I promise). Once applied, I let it dry for a couple of minutes before getting dressed. I save it for special occasions but it has a pretty short expiry date of 8 months so I have been using it more frequently to make sure it doesn’t go to waste and it has made my skin very soft. It lived up to all the hype, and then some. It’s vegan, gluten free, paraben free, toxin free and fragrance free.
I purchased Prtty Peaushun at a local store called Generics. It is available at some online retailers however stock seems to be quite low in Australia at the time that this blog post is being published. I will make sure to keep you updated on when it’s back in stock via my Instagram page.
Skin Owl Body+ Illuminating Body Oil
The Skin Owl Body+ Illuminating Body Oil was kindly gifted to me by The V Spot to try and to review. The V Spot (the “V” stands for vegan) is a very unique online boutique marketplace offering not only beautiful makeup, hair, body and skincare products but also apparel and accessories which all align with their values of being animal, people and earth friendly. I was really happy to see Skin Owl on their list of brands as I have been following them for a while on Instagram and have always been intrigued by their range.
If you have very dry skin and prefer to use an oil instead of a moisturiser such as the Prtty Peaushun, this might be a good option for you. It contains some lovely gentle oils such as Safflower, Apricot Kernel, Sweet Almond, Jojoba and Aloe Leaf Oil which are all great for quenching parched and sensitive skin. You apply it straight after showering to semi-damp skin and the result is long lasting hydration and a lovely glow thanks to the rose gold-coloured mica (not glitter). I sometimes even mix it with the Prtty Peashun to amp up the glow. It has a beautiful scent which comes from all the delicious ingredients and it’s vegan, cruelty free and contains natural ingredients.
The V Spot have kindly organised a 15% discount code for their entire range of beauty products so if you do want to try this oil, you can use the code “FLUKELOVE15”.
