La Mav is an Australian skincare and makeup brand that in 2018 will celebrate its 10th birthday, a huge achievement in the organic and natural skincare industry. It was founded by Dr Tarj Mavi and like many founders’ stories, hers is a personal one. Frustrated with the lack of non toxic skincare that could help her with post pregnancy skin pigmentation, she set out to make her own. Her creation has been wildly successful and La Mav now boasts an array of skincare, body and makeup products that are Australian made, vegan, cruelty free and some which are certified organic too.
The Beauty Edit very kindly asked me if I would like to try some La Mav products. I knew that the brand was very well established, affordable, accessible and had great reviews so for the past few weeks I have been testing out the Hydra-Calm Cleansing Crème and the Organic BB Crème.
La Mav Hydra-Calm Cleansing Crème
When it comes to cleansers, I’m quite fussy and I only use oil or balm cleansers to remove makeup. For my second and morning cleanse I like to use a cream formula so the Hydra-Calm Cleansing Crème has been perfect for that. It is very gentle on the skin and incredibly creamy, calming and hydrating. It’s lovely to use, the texture is so silky and glides on the skin really beautifully. It makes my skin feel clean but not tight or dry, thanks to the high content of shea butter, macadamia seed oil and cocoa butter.
Packaged in an airless pump bottle, one pump dispenses the right amount so you always know you’re using enough product. Despite La Mav claiming that it can remove make up, I did find that it stung my eyes so I would suggest that you avoid the eye area with this one and remove makeup with an oil based or bi-phase makeup remover first. Overall this is a lovely everyday cleanser that would work best for those with normal, dry and sensitive skin.
La Mav Organic BB Crème
If you follow me on Instagram you may remember that I am in the process of testing out quite a few BB creams and so I was very keen to put the Organic BB Crème through its paces. It claims to be the first Australian organic BB cream and it’s very popular, for good reason. It contains some of my favourite ingredients such as avocado oil, jojoba oil and sweet almond oil which are great for oil balancing, anti-ageing and hydration. Despite the oil content it has a lovely, unscented creamy formula that blends easily into the skin. I dispense one pump of product and use my fingers to apply and blend.
When set, it has a satin matte finish which is great for normal, oily and combination skin. If you have very dry skin, I suggest to add a drop of oil to the BB cream and mix them between the fingers before applying. I have been using the La Mav Intense Moisture Nightly Repair Nectar and the two pair up beautifully. The Organic BB Crème gets the Fluke seal of approval and it has definitely lived up to the hype. I can’t believe it took me this long to try it!
If you are interested in trying some La Mav skincare, they offer a very affordable way to do so in the form of mini travel packs. I’m heading to Melbourne in a few days and the La Mav Travel/Sample Pack – Ultra Hydration Range is coming with me. My skin always gets very dehydrated when I travel so it will be perfect.
The Beauty Edit has created a discount code for Fluke readers which applies to all La Mav products. Just enter the code “La Mav Sanida” at checkout to apply a 25% discount to your order of La Mav. Happy shopping!
I hope that you’ve enjoyed reading a little bit about La Mav. Their range is huge so no doubt I will be testing more of their products in the future. If you have any recommendations on what I should try next please leave a comment below, email me or connect with me on Instagram and Facebook.
