rms beauty was one of the first brands that I delved into when testing natural and organic make up. They have come a long way since my very first purchase, launching eyeshadow, nail polishes, palettes and more. Soon they will be releasing a range of lipsticks and to say that I am excited, is a huge understatement.

rms beauty was founded by make up artist Rose-Marie Swift. Rose-Marie is a veteran of the industry, with 35+ years of experience, making up the faces of some big Hollywood names and working with top fashion houses and magazines. With all of that work, came a lot of exposure to mainstream cosmetics which impacted on her health and wellbeing. On her journey to better health, Rose-Marie was inspired to create her own brand of non-toxic make up that was kind to the skin and to the body. Some of my favourite rms beauty products include the “Un” Cover-up concealer, Tinted “Un” Powder and their highlighters which I will be reviewing in this post.

Not everyone uses highlighter so I thought I would cover off some basic information to start with. Highlighter is a cream or powder product that contains fine light reflecting particles which help to accentuate certain features of the face. It is typically applied to the high points of the face such as the cheekbones, temples, brow bone, cupids bow and bridge of the nose (not the tip). When it comes to highlighter, less is more and the idea is to look dewy, so it’s important to find the right formula and shade for your skin tone.

As a very general rule, fair to light skintones should opt for a pearlescent or silver tone. Those with medium to olive skin tones should stick to those with a champagne or peach undertone. Dark skin tones will glow with a golden or bronze highlight. As with all make up rules, they are there to be broken. Experiment and see what works best for you but whatever you do, beware the chunky glitter highlighters. If you are a newbie, I strongly recommend a cream formula, such as rms beauty.

rms beauty Living Luminizer

The original and most universally flattering of the highlighters is the Living Luminizer. It has a beautiful satin pearl finish which has the perfect amount of pigment for the highlight beginner. It is easy to apply with your fingers and the formula is so smooth and hydrating. The tried and true rms beauty formula of castor seed oil, coconut oil, vitamin E and beeswax delivers a creamy luminescence without a hint of glitter. It also appears in the rms beauty Signature Set palette in Mod.

For those who prefer a pink champagne shade with a bit more oomph than the Living Luminizer, you will love the Magic Luminizer. rms beauty added sunflower seed oil and jojoba oil to this formula as well as a lot more pigment. It’s a good idea to be light handed with this as it does have a very high wattage. I really like the Magic Luminizer for night time and I also use it on my eyelids. It comes in a pot and it also appears in the rms beauty Signature Set palette in Pop (pictured below).

rms beauty Master Mixer

The Master Mixer is a rose gold hued cream which was designed to be mixed with other make up such as lipstick, cream blush and eyeshadow. It also makes a great highlight and it layers beautifully over the Living Luminizer. It is not as pigmented, however that’s what makes it a great multitasker. It enchances, but doesn’t overpower. The Master Mixer can also be found in the Signature Set palette in Mod.

A product which still hasn’t hit Mecca Cosmetica stores in Australia is the Champagne Rosé Luminizer, a blush pink champagne shade and the Luminizer X Quad which contains Champagne Rosé and 3 unique shades which are not in the regular range. I am very keen to test these out when they become available in Australia. For those who can’t wait, you can get your hands on the quad palette at Content Beauty.

If you’ve never tried highlighters, I promise you that they can transform your face. They can be worn on their own, or with a little bit of tinted moisturiser. You certainly don’t need to be a full face of make up kind of person to enjoy the glow and the light that they provide.
